As the passage of Summer quickens, I breath deeply, ushering to Autumn as it closes in. Transitions abound within my world; some surprising, others anticipated, but all welcomed.
The website is undergoing a makeover. This blog, while begging my fingers to strike the keys with more frequency, has experienced a tidy facelift. The third round of SKIRT patiently await the latest debut as I finish their final details.
Mr. Maddox James has returned to his momma after two long months in the swampy South with his papa. Brimming with defiance and independence, sporting long locks, he nestles back into our St. Louis routine with little agitation. While his strong will often besets my days -- evidence he is my direct descendant -- this very nature will be cause for celebration as he matures. Currently obsessed with numbers, he couldn't be anymore thrilled about having turned four. According to him, he has a mere seven years until he can drive a school bus. His imagination has concluded 'eleven' as the magic age one can secure such a license. Suspicious of his absolute vigor, I believe eleven will prove an interesting year with him.
With all I enjoy and everything I lend myself to, words and fashion most commonly deliver me quaking shivers and broad smiles. Similar to a strong sentence, a strong outfit can call up emotions which are defining. In the same way modern pieces should be married with vintage for an updated look, classic pieces should be met with a sliver of provocation. Runway fashion showcase classic staples, reinvented. Long-legged beauties, feet ablaze as they strut, steadily streaming down the runway, offer eras gone past infused with an edge. When making an outfit your own, afford your classic pieces an anomalous touch by playing to the aspects you are drawn to.
Allowing delicates to play peek-a-boo from beneath sheers is a classic, yet avant-garde look I rarely refuse. Bold and demure are introduced and emerge complex, demanding attention. Significant as the selections layered atop them, are the undergarments ensconced below. Why not show them off a bit?
Feminizing traditionally masculine pieces leaves me feeling cloaked in power. The following three photos serve as inspiration that masculine pieces can prove effortlessly sexy.
For all the garments -- and boys -- I have known, endless possibilities live in the ever-suggestive mens button down shirt. Whether purchased during your latest shopping trip or lifted from his closet, the affect is the same: beguiling. So make like you stole it from his place and leave them wondering as you don the 'boyfriend' look. Suitable for pumps, boots or grecian sandals, tie it off, belt it as a dress, pair it with jeans or mini skirt. The thrill, in part, of fashion is not merely putting it on, but the promise of taking it off. As seen below, this look delivers the same electrification from street-wearable to the strip-down.
Taking the men's shirt one step further is the plaid flannel, most favorably worn in red. The hasten of chilling temperatures sing accolades for my stealthy exit from his bedroom, many seasons ago, wrapped up in the best damn lumberjack shirt I've ever slipped on. Years later, amidst the countless ensembles it has known, I remain unapologetic for its hijacking.
A versatile mate for masculine and feminine garb alike, is the high bun; disheveled, yet elegant, it proves striking.
Honoring these latest obsessions, the shop will feature a collection of both boyfriend style blazers and shirts, along with a stunning array of fanciful lingerie later this month…
